Franchising is the American phenomenon for the
past 70 years. According to the United States Commerce Department,
franchising has a failure rate of only 3.7% while non-franchise
businesses fail at the rate of 65% to 85%.
Less than 6% of
businesses within the United States are franchise businesses, yet
they produce over 48% of the Retail Gross Annual Product.
Franchising has not only caught on in the United States, but 40
Countries now have franchise laws. It is estimated that by the end
of 2010, franchising will yield $2 trillion to our
economy.
More than 16 million people are employed by
franchise businesses, with an average of 8 to 14 employees per
business. Franchised businesses create more than 300,000 new jobs
each year.
There are an estimated 8,000 franchise companies
operating in the U.S. doing business through more than 600,000
retail units.
Seventy-five industries use franchising to
distribute goods and services to consumers. Average initial
investment level for nearly 8 out of 10 franchises, excluding real
estate, is less than $250,000.
